Azure and SQL Server

Small tools that do one job well.

Affordable tools for the jobs Azure and SQL Server developers do every day. Compare, document, fill, scramble, search, monitor and schedule, in VS Code, on the desktop or from the command line.

  • Windows, Mac and Linux. Built with Native AOT
  • Starts in a blink, nothing else to install
  • Signs in your way: Microsoft, Windows or SQL login
Benchdog Key Vault on the desktop.
The tools

One tool per job. Pick the ones you need.

Every tool ships as a VS Code extension, a desktop app and a command line, on one licence.

Azure tools

Key Vault and Cloud Shell, for the Azure services you touch every day.

VS Code + Desktop + CLI

Key Vault

See every secret across your vaults. Spot drift. Edit safely.

Browse Azure Key Vault secrets across all your vaults in one place, compare environments for drift, and edit with history and rules. Values are shown or copied only when you ask.

Every vault in one list. Values stay masked until you ask.
VS Code + Desktop + CLI

Shell

Azure Cloud Shell, without the browser tab.

Open Azure Cloud Shell, Bash or PowerShell, in VS Code, in its own desktop app or in the terminal you are in, signed in as you. Local terminals sit beside it, your subscriptions are a click away, and the commands you run often are saved.

Your Cloud Shell, in its own window.

SQL Server tools

Document, compare, deploy, fill, scramble, search, run, monitor and schedule, on SQL Server and Azure SQL.

VS Code + Desktop + CLI

SQL Documenter

Document a database in minutes, not days.

Browse SQL Server and Azure SQL databases, edit the description on every object, and document them as HTML, Markdown, Word or PDF, with diagrams and links. Only the structure is read, never table data.

Tick the databases and formats, then Generate.
VS Code + Desktop + CLI

SQL Data Comparer

Find the rows that differ and sync them in one transaction.

Compare the rows of two SQL Server or Azure SQL databases, see exactly what differs, and write a sync script or sync the target in one transaction.

Every table compared, and the rows that differ right there.
VS Code + Desktop + CLI

SQL Schema Compare

See what changed in the schema and deploy it safely.

Compare the structure of two SQL Server or Azure SQL databases, see each object side by side, and write a deploy script or deploy to the target in one transaction.

Every difference, grouped by kind, with a tick to deploy it.
VS Code + Desktop + CLI

SQL Data Filler

Realistic test data that keeps your keys and constraints.

Fill SQL Server and Azure SQL tables with realistic names, emails, addresses, dates and amounts that fit each column. Foreign keys, unique values and simple check constraints hold, and the same seed makes the same rows.

Each column is matched to its name and type, with the reason shown.
VS Code + Desktop + CLI

SQL Data Scrambler

Scramble personal data in test and dev copies. Rows still join.

Replace names, emails, phones, addresses and card numbers in a test or dev copy of a SQL Server or Azure SQL database with fake, masked or shuffled values. Keys stay, so rows still join.

Names, emails, dates and card numbers are spotted and given a rule.
VS Code + Desktop + CLI

SQL Search

Find any name, column or line of code in every database.

Search the names, columns and code of tables, views, procedures and more across many SQL Server and Azure SQL databases at once, then open each match's script at its line. Only the catalog is read.

One search, every database, grouped by object.
VS Code + Desktop + CLI

SQL Multi Runner

One script, every database, and exactly how each one went.

Run one SQL script against many SQL Server and Azure SQL databases on many servers, a few at a time, and see each database's messages, rows changed, result sets and errors. Save the results as CSV.

One script, every database in the list, each result right there.
VS Code + Desktop + CLI

SQL Monitor

Know what your SQL Servers are doing, before your users tell you.

A collector you run on your own network checks SQL Server, Azure SQL and Amazon RDS on a schedule, keeps the history in a database you choose, and alerts you by email, Teams or Slack. See every server at a glance in VS Code and on the desktop.

Your estate, and what changed last.
VS Code + Desktop + CLINew

SQL Scheduler

SQL Agent for every edition, including the ones that never had one.

Back up databases, run scripts and run the other Benchdog tools on a schedule, on SQL Server, SQL Server Express, Azure SQL Database and Managed Instance, with every run kept and an alert when a job fails. It does what the big job schedulers do for a fraction of their price, and runs as one service beside SQL Monitor's collector.

Your jobs, and what ran last.

Across every tool

Coming to every tool.

Inside every tool

AI Assistant

An assistant that knows your databases and vaults, and never sees a secret.

An AI helper inside every Benchdog tool that answers from what the tool is showing you: writes SQL for your schema, explains a difference, describes an object, without ever seeing a password or a secret value. In every Benchdog tool, on the desktop and in VS Code, with actions that run the tool for you after you press Run.

The assistant sees the objects in view, never your data or your secrets.
Every tool

What they all share.

Three ways to work, one engine

Every tool comes as a VS Code extension, a desktop app for Windows, Mac and Linux, and a benchdog command for scripts and pipelines. All three run the same engine, so a comparison, a fill or a search gives the same answer wherever you run it.

Signs in as you

Azure calls run as you, through your browser or your existing az login. The SQL tools use your Microsoft, Windows or SQL login, and a SQL password is kept only if you tick Remember, in your system's secure store.

Safe by default

Anything that changes a database or a vault asks first, says what it will change, and runs in one transaction where it can, with a backup offered first. Reads only read: SQL Search and SQL Documenter never touch table data, and Key Vault values show only when you ask.

Project files you can share

Save a comparison, a fill, a scramble, a search, a list of databases or a set of scheduled jobs as a small JSON file, keep it in your repo, and run it again from VS Code, the desktop app or a pipeline. Project files get autocomplete and error checking in VS Code, and never hold a password.

Help when something goes wrong

Turn on the diagnostics log in Settings for a debug log of what Benchdog did, with passwords, connection strings, tokens and your data taken out. If an app hits an error it did not expect, a window shows the details to copy, with one click to email support.
