Benchdog Shell

Azure Cloud Shell, without the browser tab.

VS Code, desktop and command line. Windows, Mac and Linux. One licence covers all three.

Open Azure Cloud Shell, Bash or PowerShell, in VS Code, in its own desktop app or in the terminal you are in, signed in as you. Local terminals sit beside it, your subscriptions are a click away, and the commands you run often are saved.

Cloud Shell, no browser needed

Open Cloud Shell in Bash or PowerShell as a tab in VS Code or the desktop app, or in your own terminal with benchdog shell. It is the same Cloud Shell as shell.azure.com, with your clouddrive files and every tool Cloud Shell has, so there is no browser tab to keep open.

Your Cloud Shell, in its own window.

A real terminal

Colours, Tab completion, the arrows, Ctrl+C and Ctrl+R all work, and so do vim, nano, less and top. Resize the window and the shell knows its new size. Scroll back through the last 3,000 rows, copy what you select and paste several lines without running them one by one.

Full screen programs work, as in any terminal.

Many tabs, one window

Open as many tabs as you like, each its own terminal on your one Cloud Shell, with Bash and PowerShell side by side. Each step shows while a tab starts, and keys typed meanwhile are kept. When a shell ends, by exit, Cloud Shell's idle timeout or a lost connection, the tab says why.

Bash, PowerShell and local tabs together.

Local terminals beside it

Open a terminal on your own machine in the same window: PowerShell 7, Windows PowerShell or cmd on Windows, and your own shell on Mac and Linux. It is a real terminal on your machine, so az, git and your scripts work as they always do. In VS Code, Local Terminal opens and shows who az is signed in as.

Your own machine's shell, next to Cloud Shell.

Subscriptions a click away

The subscriptions your account can see are listed, enabled ones first. Double-click one to make it the current subscription in the tab on show: az account set, and in PowerShell Set-AzContext too, so az and the Az module agree.

Pick a subscription and the shell switches to it.

Save the commands you run often

Keep one line commands, such as az group list --output table, with a short name. Paste one into the tab without running it, or run it straight away. A command that looks as if it holds a password, key or token asks before it is saved.

One click for the commands you type every day.

Signs in as you

Cloud Shell runs as your Benchdog account, through the browser once or your existing az login, in your home tenant or another you belong to. The token is never shown or logged, and what you type and what the shell prints are never written to a log.

Signed in as you, every step shown.
